A 20-year-old inmate named Amidu Dawuda, who faced two charges of misconduct and was fined GH¢2,400 for stealing two mobile phones and GH¢1,200 from a neighbour, has expressed gratitude to his victim for reporting him, which led to his arrest and subsequent imprisonment.

In an interview with Crime Check TV GH, the inmate at James Camp Prison, Amidu, suggested that he might have been killed by this time due to his involvement in criminal activities.

He said, “I did not follow my parents’ advice to stop stealing, it could have led to significant consequences”.

The prisoner requested his parents to forgive him for what he has done. He stated that being in prison has changed his life and provided him with the chance to learn a skill, which he plans to develop further when he is released.

Amidu expressed to Crime Check the importance of not stigmatising ex-convicts, as this can negatively impact their self-esteem.

The prisoner’s face was filled with remorse as he promised to behave well when he returned from jail.
