Ghanaians are complaining about how they are spending a lot of money on electricity bills recently.
It all started on TikTok, where one user boldly called Ghanaians to share their experience on how fast the prepaid meter runs like Usain Bolt when he was dominating athletics from 2008 to 2016.
People started sharing what they are going through, and it gained much attention. Much pressure started piling on the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to resolve the issue.
After an emergency meeting between the two concerning the fast diminution of prepaid electricity units, PURC have ordered ECG to address the issue within the next two days
Acting Executive Secretary of PURC, Dr Shafic Suleman, on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday night said, “The consumer must be protected, safeguarded, and be able to have equal access to ECG, and that is the focus. ECG is supposed to work timeously to solve the problem.”
Ghanaians are eager to see the issue resolved immediately because they are losing money unnecessarily.
Many have planned to stage a demonstration if it is not rectified by next Friday.
