The Amanfro District Police Command has rescued sixteen foreign nationals from a suspected Qnet recruitment scam.
Twelve men and four women were found in a private apartment in Peace Town, which is part of the Ga South Municipality in Greater Accra.
Authorities have verified that the individuals are from Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.
They were reportedly enticed to go to Ghana with false job offers, only to be confined and left inactive in a room.
Abdul Baky, a family member of one of the victims, informed Adom News that the recruiter demanded between GHS60,000 and GHS80,000, assuring that this payment would result in a stable job in Ghana.
In one instance, a victim paid GHS60,000, thinking he would be accepted onto a football team.
He was kept involuntarily without any job or training opportunities available.
The Crime Officer of the Amanfro District, ASP Bright Amanfo, has verified the arrest of the individual responsible for the operation.
Officials are working together with the Ghana Immigration Service to arrange the return of all 16 victims to their home countries.
Across West Africa, young people are always promised employment, education and sports contracts but are later scammed by Qnet-related issues.
