Wayne Rooney has sent a very strong message to Trent Alexander-Arnold amid interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The boyhood Liverpool supporter, who has enjoyed his career at the Merseyside club, has been reported in various British tabloids that he has agreed to sign a five-year deal with Real Madrid of Spain.
The 25-year-old’s contract is about to expire in July 2025 after Liverpool failed to agree new terms with him and his entourage.
Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has backed Trent’s decision to join Real Madrid.
“Because it is Real, I don’t think you could question it as a career move. Real is the biggest club in the world. It would be a massive opportunity and I’d understand if he felt it was too good to turn down,” Wayne Rooney said.
“Liverpool is his boyhood club, but sometimes you have to make these decisions. [He could play alongside] Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, so it must be appealing to him. Spain would be a really good move for him,” Rooney concluded.
According to close sources of Trent Alexander-Arnold, his heart has been bewitched by Real Madrid’s status and there’s nothing Liverpool can do to turn his mind and heart, even though he is one of their own.
