Grand Papa of rap music in Ghana, Reggie Rockstone has disclosed that a man marrying just one woman in Ghana was imposed on Ghanaian men.
Polygamy is practised in many parts of the African continent. It was so popular in the mid and late 21st century as our grandfathers used to marry two, three or four women at the same time.
Polygamy is little by little becoming a thing of the past with many Ghanaian women opposing it vehemently.
In an interview with Class TV, the originator of the famous Ghanaian Hiplife music genre disclosed that the idea of a man being with only one woman is a foreign concept and is against African cultures.
“I know it’s not African; I could tell you that for sure. It doesn’t seem to apply to us. We’ve been so Christianised and Westernised now,” Reggie said.
“But I really believe that it does move with our culture. I mean, it was imposed on us,” he added.
Reggie Rockstone, 60, was born in the UK, but he has lived in Ghana for more than three decades, having enjoyed a successful career in the rap industry. He still remains a popular figure in the Ghanaian music industry.
