Laryea Kingston shockingly downed his tools as the head coach of the Ghana U-17 national team after losing to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship hosted in Accra. He later apologised and resumed his work as the head coach for the team.

It was very shocking to everyone when the former Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak winger Laryea announced his resignation.

Coach Nimley who’s a close friend of Laryea Kingston revealed on the Citi FM Sports Panorama programme on Friday evening that Laryea Kingston has personally revealed the reason why he resigned as the head coach of the U-17 to him.

“Laryea with a heavy heart disclosed that, after the Russia 4-team Tournament Games, there was a powerful member of the GFA who told him to dissolve the team he took to Russia and pick eight players he has from his football club,” coach Nimley revealed.

“Laryea refused to prostrate to this unwarranted pressure because he could not work with players he didn’t know or train.

“The unwarranted pressure kept blowing on his face even during the WAFU Zone B Tournament with altercation and he had to finally resign to protect his integrity and principles, said Coach Nimley.

It was very clear that interference was the reason why Laryea Kingston was so furious and subsequently resigned.

Ghana finished 4th in the just-ended WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship after losing 3-2 to Nigeria in the 3rd and 4th playoff.
