A man described as a “human beast” has been arrested in Wa, Upper West Region, for allegedly committing a series of gruesome murders.

The suspect, Sheriff Abdulai, 30, also known as Sani Mohammed, is believed to be responsible for a string of killings targeting night watchmen and individuals with mental health challenges.

According to police sources, Abdulai confessed to murdering fifteen people between 2021 and 2025.

Disturbingly, he admitted to removing vital organs—such as the heart, tongue, and lungs—from his victims, which he then roasted and consumed at the crime scenes.

His arrest followed a high-level intervention by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who dispatched a specialised team from the Police Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) to assist the Wa Police Command in solving the mystery behind the serial killings.

The breakthrough came on September 21, 2025, when Mahamuda Lamin, 25, was arrested in Wa-Dobile in connection with the stolen mobile phone of Issah Yahaya, a 55-year-old watchman who had been murdered. During interrogation, Lamin implicated Abdulai, although he was unable to provide details about his whereabouts.

Determined to apprehend the suspect, police sought assistance from local opinion leaders. Their efforts paid off when Abdulai was arrested on October 6, 2025.

In custody, Abdulai reportedly confessed to four murders committed in 2021 at Kpaguri, Loho, Kambale, and Mangu. He went on to admit to eleven additional killings at locations including Kulpong-Yeyri, Goripie, TI Ahmadiyya School, Kpaguri near Chorkor Sawmill, and Napogbakole.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to verify the full extent of Abdulai’s crimes and bring closure to the affected communities.
