Bring back the love. I’m a game changer. These were two statements from the Ghana Football Association president when he assumed office in 2019. In 2023, when he was voted for a second term to continue his job, he reiterated these two statements, trying harder to convince Ghanaians that he was going to be the saviour.

Everything shows that the boss is failing to honour his promises. It is so simple because no changes have been seen regarding every aspect and level of Ghana’s football.

In week 30 of the Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko visited Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium with zero attention towards the match.

This fixture used to divide families as people were very much in love with the two biggest clubs in the country. Ghana’s football has refused to grow due to horrible decisions from top to bottom.

The biggest victim of the downfall of Ghana’s football is the Ghana Premier League, which has no sponsorship for the ongoing season, where only four rounds of matches are left.

Ace broadcaster Serwaa Amihere, a staunch Kotoko fan, was not happy at all with what transpired at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon and has urged the Ghana Football Association president to honour his promises to help revive the league.

Serwaa wrote via her X account

“Dear Kurt Okraku, you have been the Ghana Football Association President since 2019, and your biggest mantra was: ‘Bring back the love”.

“I support Kumasi Asante Kotoko, so our game against Hearts of Oak yesterday appeared in many of my social media feeds. Shockingly, for Ghana’s biggest football game, I have seen the attendance at the Accra Sports Stadium and wasn’t impressed. I have even seen a fan saying the Ashanti Region Super Zonals Athletics Competition among Senior High Schools is interesting and worth attending than a game between Kotoko and Hearts.

“Our biggest brand might be the Black Stars, but we cannot discount the economic and social impact of having a well-organised and properly managed Ghana Premier League.

“Sir, please fix security at our stadiums, invest in marketing our game to attract fans, incentivise and renumerate properly match officials, get us improved playing pitches and make our league centres safe for families.

One of the biggest challenges we face in Ghana is, we are good at coming up with slogans and policies, but after implementation, there are no proper tracking systems to measure the gains and identify challenges to fix.

“Dear Mr. Kurt Okraku, how do you think you have fared in managing the Ghana Premier League?

“Thank you,” Serwaa said.

The broadcast journalist and news presenter summed up all the issues that have led to the demise of Ghana’s football. She begged Kurt Okraku to help fix all the problems of football in Ghana.
