The Suhum Circuit Court in the Eastern Region has remanded Priscila Owusua, popularly known as Adwoa, a resident of Komfa, into two weeks’ custody for allegedly dumping her one-week-old baby boy into a public toilet latrine at Ali, a suburb of the Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Priscila Owusua appeared before the court on Thursday, October 9, 2025, where the presiding judge ordered that she be held in remand to allow police investigators and prosecutors more time to complete their work.
The case has been adjourned to October 21, 2025, for final hearing and prosecution.
Tragic Incident Shocks Suhum
The disturbing incident occurred on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, when residents of Ali, discovered the lifeless body of a one-week-old baby in a toilet pit.
The tragic discovery sent shockwaves through the community, sparking outrage and sorrow among residents.
According to reports, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Suhum received a distress call around 6:30 a.m. from residents near the Gateway Preparatory School.
An 11-member rescue team, led by Assistant Station Officer Henry Danso, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The firefighters carried out a delicate retrieval operation, and by 7:00 a.m., they successfully recovered the body of the infant.
Sadly, the baby was confirmed dead upon retrieval.

Police Investigation And Arrest
Initial investigations by the police suggested that the baby was allegedly dumped into the latrine by his mother, who initially fled the scene after committing the act.
Police efforts to locate her intensified over the following days, leading to her eventual arrest at her residence in Komfa.
The suspect, Owusua, believed to be in her late 20s, reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that she had given birth secretly and disposed of the baby shortly afterward.
However, her full statement and motive are yet to be presented in court.
The Suhum Police Command has since taken custody of the body and forwarded it to the Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
