In a move aimed at easing the burden on commercial drivers and strengthening community safety, the Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has donated free fuel to hundreds of drivers operating within the Municipality.

The initiative, which formed part of his festive season outreach, was warmly received by drivers who described the gesture as timely and thoughtful.

During the exercise, the MP said the response from drivers had been overwhelming, with many turning up early to benefit from the offer.

He explained that the programme was designed to support between 400 and 500 commercial drivers, each receiving two gallons of fuel.

According to him, the distribution would continue until the list of beneficiaries was fully exhausted.

Mr. Asiedu Bekoe noted that the decision to support commercial drivers was not only driven by compassion but also by a deeper appreciation of their role in maintaining safety and order within communities.

He explained that drivers, by virtue of their constant movement and interaction with passengers, often serve as the first line of informal intelligence, capable of identifying suspicious individuals and activities within their environment.

“People often overlook the importance of commercial drivers in our security architecture,” he said. “But they are the ones who see and hear things first. If a stranger enters town with bad intentions, they are usually the first to notice. This is my small way of appreciating their role and supporting them during this festive period.”

The free fuel distribution was carried out under the banner of the Office of the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency, with clear branding indicating it as a constituency-based intervention.

Drivers from various transport unions within the municipality turned up in large numbers, expressing gratitude to the MP for what many described as a rare and practical form of support, especially at a time when fuel prices remain a major operational challenge.

The drivers praised the initiative, noting that it would help ease their daily running costs and enable them to continue providing essential transport services to residents throughout the festive season.

The gesture, they said, also strengthened the bond between the MP and the local transport community.

The initiative adds to a series of community-focused interventions by the Suhum MP, reinforcing his commitment to grassroots engagement and social support as part of his parliamentary responsibilities.
