A 26-year-old man named Prince Awuah has been sentenced to 16 months in prison with hard labour for unlawful entry and attempted arson. He was convicted of unlawfully entering a residence at night and attempting to ignite a fire.

The court in Tarkwa sentenced him after he confessed to the crime. The incident occurred in Aboso on April 19, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m. Solomon Donkor and his family were sleeping when his older brother, who had awakened to pray, noticed smoke.

When he went outside, he noticed Awuah igniting clothes and attempting to set the electricity meter box of the house on fire. The brother called for help, and the neighbours quickly came out to intervene with Awuah. They apprehended him and brought him to the police.

During the search, police discovered a lighter in his possession. During the interrogation, Awuah admitted that he had consumed alcohol and marijuana. The judge, Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, issued a sentence based on the individual’s own plea.

The court stated that these actions are harmful and should be penalised to ensure the safety of the community. Awuah is currently incarcerated in Tarkwa.
