The founder of UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, was extremely truthful when speaking on Channel One TV, where he boldly disclosed that the major problem facing Ghana is proper leadership.

“After doing UT and giving jobs to people and creating a company and getting acknowledgement, downhill, collapse, and everything. I sat back and reflected deeply, and asked what the biggest problem of this country is. It’s not rocket science; it’s about leadership, the people who hold positions in businesses, institutions, government and politics,” Amoabeng said.

Ghana has failed to improve in every sector since gaining Independence, and it has become so normal that there is no plan to take the country to where it belongs. The problems are 100% leadership. Kofi Amoabeng, after investing a lot in UT Bank, saw that his investment went wrong due to poor corporate governance and poor risk management, among many other factors.

He continued, “The problem we have with them generally is that we don’t have leaders with the right values. Values, I mean, people who respect everybody. Have respect for all. Respect for all means you respect everybody’s time, and you respect systems, and you let systems do the choosing and positions. And then you must be honest in all your transactions, transparent and selfless. It’s about the people, after all, that is why we came into this world,” he added.

Kofi Amoabeng stressed on lack of respect for individuals and institutions from those in power. Systems must be allowed to choose those who fit many positions, but rather those at the top choose their own people, all in the name of party membership.

“We came here to make the right impact. We create leaders, but when you identify your problem, you go to an expert. Our problem is not just about leadership, but leaders with the right mindset, qualities, different from what we’re experiencing now,” he concluded.

Ghanaian leaders have lacked the right mindset to lead the country, and Kofi Amoabeng blamed them solely for the troubles that have bedevilled Ghana for more than half a century.
