22-year-old Ghanaian forward Thelma Baffour became the second Ghanaian footballer to win the Women’s CAF Champions League when she helped Congolese side TP Mazembe beat FAR Rabat 1-0 in the 2024 edition.

History was made when she appeared in the finals in the second half. She became the second Ghanaian woman to win the coveted title since Blessing Agbomadzie won it with AS FAR in 2022.

After the incredible success in Morocco with TP Mazembe, the young Ghanaian forward dreams of wearing the famous Black Queens jersey.

“I’m ever ready [because] football is about opportunities so any opportunity that comes my way, I will go harder [for it].” Thelma Baffour told Pan-Africa Football. Baffour has been narrating the team’s challenges during their CAF Champions League journey.

Nora Huptle, who recently turned the fortunes of the Black Queens around by securing a slot in the 2024 WAFCON, which will be played in the summer of 2025 in Morocco, left Ghana for Copper Queens of Zambia. The GFA has replaced the siss tactician with the experienced Swedish tactician Kim Lars Björkegren, and the former Berry ladies attacker is thinking of getting the opportunity to represent Ghana, her motherland.

Attuah explained how difficult it was in their journey to win the CAF Women’s Champions League against all odds in Morocco against ASFAR.

“It wasn’t easy because the first time they played in the CAF Champions League, I was not part of the squad. But I heard the news that they could not reach the group stage of the competition so we aimed to reach far and at least go past the group stage last season.

“So we went into the competition well determined and we were together, everything was strong and well organized. What helped us was, that we watched the clips of the teams that would give us problems to study their style of play. It was tough but because of our preparations, things were easy for the entire team,” Baffour told Pan-Africa Football.

Baffour played 5 times including a cameo in the finals where Mazembe triumphed 1-0.

Thelma Baffour Attuah narrated how she felt when they finally laid hands on the glittering CAF Women’s Champions League trophy in Morocco.

“I didn’t really think about anything but I was proud of myself because I made my manager, my mother, my brother, my friends and my family members proud. Nobody gave me a dog’s chance to reach this level so I was very proud of myself, my family was proud of me, my manager and everybody,” Thelma Attuah said.

Thelma’s rise is so sensational to the extent that she has won the CAF Women’s Champions League at a very young age. The icing on the cake will be getting a call-up to the national team.
