Samuel Osei Kuffuor could go down as undoubtedly the best African defender ever after spending an astonishing 12 years filled with trophies at Bayern Munich, one of the biggest football clubs in Europe.
On Supersport’s Soccer Africa, Sammy Kuffuor was asked why the Black stars have failed abysmally in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Tuga blamed the “lack of spirit” behind the Black Stars as one of the major reasons affecting the team. “The spirit of the national team is going down”, Kuffuor said.
Tuga played 53 times for Ghana and scored three goals between 1993 and 2006, so he knows almost all that it takes to make Ghanaians happy when it comes to the senior national team.
“During our days in the early 2000s, you could feel there was a different spirit when we were playing [Myself, Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari, Micheal Essien and Asamoah Gyan].
“Nobody even cares when the Black Stars are playing now. Fans used to blow trumpets on the streets when Ghana was about to play.
“People were in groups singing and chanting but now, nobody is doing those things,” Samuel Osei Kuffuor said on Soccer Africa on Supersport.
The Black Stars used to have large crowds on the streets, right outside the stadium and inside the stadium during even training sessions ahead of any game, especially in Kumasi, but it seems no one cares anymore.
Ghana missed the 2025 AFCON and will return to action in March 2025 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
