Nigeria is set to launch the first phase of its National Single Window (NSW) digital platform on Friday, March 27, 2026, as a central part of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda.

This electronic trade portal aims to streamline imports and exports by integrating all relevant government agencies into a single interface.

According to Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, the initial rollout will involve one shipping line and one port, serving as a “game changer” to modernise Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.

The primary goal of the NSW is to drastically reduce “red tape” and cargo clearance times, which have historically been among the slowest in the world.

Officials expect the platform to slash cargo dwell times from an average of 21 days down to between 24 and 48 hours by 2026.

By addressing these inefficiencies—which currently make importing goods into Lagos five times more expensive than in South Africa—the government hopes to lower trade costs and boost the country’s global competitiveness.

This digital overhaul is being launched alongside significant infrastructure investments, including a recent £746 million ($1 billion) export finance deal with Britain to redevelop two major trading ports.

Minister Oduwole noted that these reforms are expected to have a “multiplier effect” on the economy, improving the balance of trade and increasing foreign exchange generation.

The initiative reflects a broader push to stabilise the Nigerian economy and restore investor confidence through transparent, technology-driven trade facilitation.
