32-year-old versatile Ghanaian footballer Jeffrey Schlupp has signed for Scottish champions Celtic on loan until the end of the season.

The Crystal Palace star, who can play as a defender, midfielder and forward, has not gotten enough playing time since Oliver Glasner replaced Roy Hodgson almost a year ago as Crystal Palace’s manager.

Shlupp was an integral part of the Eagles team under Hodgson but has struggled to enjoy his football since the veteran English manager departed.

Crystal Palace’s official statement

“Jeffrey Schlupp has signed for Celtic on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

“Since joining Palace from Leicester City in January 2017, Schlupp has made 247 appearances for the club, 220 of which have come in the Premier League – the fourth-highest total in the Eagles’ history.

“Across nine separate seasons with Palace, the versatile Ghana international has registered 15 assists and 19 goals, most recently netting a Goal of the Season contender against Fulham at Craven Cottage in 2023/24.

“Schlupp now links up with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic who, under manager Brendan Rodgers, currently hold a 10-point lead at the top of this season’s table.

“The club would like to wish Jeffrey the very best of luck with his loan spell in Glasgow.

Jeffrey Schlupp excited to join Celtic, promises to fight for them!

“I am really happy to join Celtic, such a massive and iconic name in football,” Schlupp told club media.

“I have spoken to Brendan, and I am really looking forward to working with him and the lads in the squad as we aim to bring more silverware to our supporters.

“The team has already done brilliantly this season, both domestically and in Europe, and I know I am joining a really successful team, but I want to add to this, to play my own part and help us achieve even more.

“I can’t wait to get started, to pull on those famous green and white hoops, meet the fans and give everything I have to bring us more and more good times.”

Manager Brendan Rodgers added: “I am really pleased that we have been able to bring Jeffrey to the club.

“I know he will love it at Celtic and I am sure our fans will love him and what he can bring to us.

“He is a fantastic guy, someone with real high-level experience and with great attributes including power, pace and versatility.

“I know that he can be a really important addition to our squad this season.”
