Niklas Fullkrug is a true definition of a late bloomer in football. It took the 31-year-old ages to get the opportunity to play in the German top flight division with Werder Bremen.

After consistent performances, Fullkrug got the opportunity to represent Germany and subsequently earned a dream move to Dortmund where he played a very key role in their trip to the finals of the 2023-24 UCL at Wembley Stadium in London where they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid.

West Ham United under a new manager, Julien Lopetegui, decided to sign a natural number 9 to partner Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus in attack.

The Hammers relied on Michail Antonio in attack last season and has decided to sign the German striker to lead the team.

Speaking to the club’s official site, Fullkrug was confident of scoring many goals in the Premier League.

“I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get out on the pitch with my new teammates.

“I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and for me it is the right time to move over to England and play for a big Club like West Ham.

“I have been thinking about West Ham for a long time now – I know the Technical Director Tim Steidten very well, because we have history at Werder Bremen together, and I have watched some games and seen how much quality there is in the team.

“The chance to play under the Head Coach [Lopetegui] is also really exciting. His playing style is important for me, and I am confident that under him I will be able to perform at my best, and score lots of goals.

“I love being close to supporters, and I’m really looking forward to meeting the West Ham fans. I have a very good feeling at the moment – I’m strong, fit and in shape – and I just want to get out there and start playing for them,” said Fullkrug.

West Ham is expected to unleash the quartert of Mohammed Kudus right behind Fullkrug in attack with Summerville and Bowen on the left and right wings respectively.

West Ham fans have expressed their optimism ahead of the 2024-25 season with their excellent transfers and the possibility of an attacking football under Spanish manager Lopetegui.
