Republican presidential nominee for the November US election, Donald Trump, has reacted to President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race.

President Biden, in a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, July 21, 2024, said that even though he wanted to contest the upcoming November 2024 presidential election, he believes it is in the best interest of the country to step out of the race.

In response, via a statement issued on his Truth Social platform, Trump said his opponent was never fit to be president in the first place.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve—and never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t,” Trump said.

Trump added, “We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

He further described Biden as going down in history as the “worst president by far in the history of our country.”

In his announcement on Sunday, President Biden, who defeated Trump in his re-election bid in 2020, stated his endorsement for his vice president, Kamala Harris, as the nominee for the Democratic Party in the upcoming election.

“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” the president wrote.

Biden’s decision to pull out of the 2024 election comes on the back of growing concerns over his health and age.

Many notable Americans including members of his party called for him to step down from the race following his lackluster performance in the presidential debate held by CNN.
