Manchester City’s season has gone from bad to worse after being played and beaten convincingly by the defending champions, Real Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.
The Spanish giants looked the favourite of the two after the 3-2 first-leg win over the Citizens
French forward Kylian Mbappe stole the show at the beautiful Bernabeu with a performance that Madridistas will remember for a very long time.
With just four minutes played, Real Madrid’s first attack ended in a goal when young defender Raul Asencio’s long pass was not properly cleared by Manchester City’s skipper Ruben Diaz. Mbappe took advantage of the Portuguese centre-back’s schoolboys error and lifted the ball accurately over Ederson to give Carlo Ancelotti’s side a 1-0 lead.
Real Madrid continued their fine display on the night, with Mbappe scoring his second goal to give the Spaniards a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute after Rodrygo had accurately passed the ball to the former PSG striker. Mbappe calmly shot the ball past Ederson.
In the second half, Mbappe scored his third to finally end Manchester City’s slim hope of a comeback.
The Citizens pulled one back after Marmoush’s free-kick hit the post and Nico tapped into an empty net to make it 3-1.
In the other games of the night, German side Dortmund played a goalless draw at home to Sporting Lisbon. The Germans progressed after winning the first leg by 3-0 in Portugal.
PSG smashed Breast into pieces as the French giants won 7-0. Luis Enrique will be a happy man after seven different players scored the goals. Barcola, Kvaraskhelia, Vitinha, Doue, Nuno Mendes, Ramos and Mayulu each scored a goal in the demolition exercise.
Italian giants Juventus lost 3-1 to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The Old Ladies were eliminated by the Dutch side 4-3 on aggregate. Ryan Flamingo’s extra-time goal sealed the deal for PSV Eindhoven.
