On the health ministry of Uganda’s official X account, the ministry declared, “Good news! The current Ebola Sudan Virus Disease outbreak has officially come to an end. Without a new case since the last confirmed patient was discharged”

Ugandans across the globe have been celebrating the news because of how deadly the disease could be to them.

In January 2025, Uganda announced the outbreak after a male nurse’s unfortunate death after testing positive.

The death of the nurse caused panic among many Ugandans who started demanding that the health ministry double its efforts to avoid a complete outbreak.

The Ministry confirmed two deaths from 10 cases early in March. The disease is prevalent in the Eastern African nation as a result of many tropical forests that are habitats for the virus. The country announced its first infection 25 years ago and recently recorded its ninth. No disease has yet had an approved vaccine.

The outbreak began in Kampala, which serves as the departing point en route to DR. Congo, which has recorded nearly 2,500 deaths since 2018, Kenya, South Sudan and Rwanda, hence making the fight against it extremely tedious.

Ugandan government has been receiving praise for its control of the disease compared to its neighbouring countries.

Over 15,000 people in Africa have died of Ebola in the past 50 years.
