Ghanaian gospel artist Ohemaa Mercy has narrated why she divorced her husband.
The veteran confirmed to Anita Akuffo on TV3 Ghana’s Today’s Woman show, Yes, “I am divorced. She added that this is the time I’ve seen the hand of God so strong on me.”
According to her, it was God who directed her to divorce her husband. “I was actually depending on man, and I received the confirmation from God that this is it, and when I talked to my partner about it, he also agreed.”
The “Ote Me Mu” composer revealed how she initiated the divorce conversation with her husband… “I really want us to break, and I need to run the ministry, and I know that is your passion for me. Let me run with it while we take care of the kids and help each other. If I am going through something, we can talk about it because I don’t want to fail God,” she confirmed this to Anita.

“For my partner, he is very mature, and we kept a cordial relationship up to date. We speak every day and co-parent.”
“But I want to advise everyone. If you are a woman going through a divorce, your partner is not your enemy. Because if you have kids, then you have a covenant. So I have to allow God to lead me through this so it will be another phase for every woman to emulate.”Ohemaa Mercy admonishes women who intend to have a divorce.
‘When God took you through the transition of your marriage to the point where it broke, everyone was talking, how did you feel?” Anita Akuffo probed.
“I remember when I was going through that I said to myself, Devil, I have given you the rope; make sure you can pull it well because I am pulling it with you in heaven. If I can pull this rope to my side and eventually win this battle, you are in trouble. And I want to say this to every woman. When you are going through a divorce, one thing I have learnt is to not depend on a man. This is because, tomorrow, there are some things you will regret. For me, my dependency was on the Lord, and I didn’t want to talk to anyone.”. She swiftly answered.
Ohemaa said she had a serious encounter with the Lord during the process of her divorce. She maintained that she would not speak to anybody about what she was going through but to God solely.
“That was when I had a serious encounter with God. I spoke to him solely to the extent of going to the mountains to pray because I really wanted to hear what the Lord wanted to tell me about what was going on around me. So when I heard it clearly, I took that bold step and gave God the glory,” she added.
Ohemaa married her ex-husband, Mr. Isaac Twum-Ampofo, somewhere in 2002 in a holy matrimony and divorce him in 2020. They shared three kids, namely, Kwabena Aseda Twum-Ampofo, Kofi Nhyira Twum-Ampofo, and Kofi Nyamekye Twum-Ampofo.
The veteran gospel minister once said in an interview that she feels fulfilled anytime she sees her ex-husband, who was once her manager.
