Brenda Biya, the daughter of Cameroon’s president, Paul Biya, has publicly advised the people of Cameroon not to vote for her father in the upcoming election in October 2025.
During a live session on TikTok, Brenda, who goes by the name “King Nasty,” attributed the issues of poverty, unemployment, and lack of progress in Cameroon to her father’s 43 years in power.
This is the first instance in African political history where the child of a sitting president has publicly opposed their parent’s leadership and actively urged voters not to support them.
Paul Biya, aged 92, is among the longest-serving leaders in the world. His presidency has been characterised by accusations of authoritarianism, corruption, and disputed elections.
Critics argue that Brenda, who resides in luxury overseas, has a difficult relationship with her family, which leads to doubts about whether her opinions represent the experiences of most people in Cameroon.
