The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 4th time (Mexico in 1970 and 1986 and the US in 1994) North America is hosting the world. President Donald Trump will still be at the White House, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino expects the US president to help lead the organisation to one of the best World Cups ever.

In an exclusive interview with the Telegraph Sport, USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino disclosed that the president of the USA, Trump, wants them to win the World Cup, and they are ready to deliver.

“Trump likes to put pressure on us – we are ready to deliver,” Poch said.

“I was listening to a conversation between our president, Donald Trump, and [Fifa president] Gianni Infantino.

“The president asked, ‘Can we win the World Cup?’ And Gianni said, ‘Yes’. But I was disappointed with this answer. He should say, ‘You need to ask your great coach, Pochettino. Because for sure, he can give a better opinion,” Pochettino said.

Trump is not a big fan of football per his recent meetings with the president of FIFA. Gianni Infantino recently visited the White House to officially inform Fonald Trump about the imminent 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup in 2026 summer.

“By the way, I think the pressure is going to be there because we are a host. And then it’s a country where the mentality is about winning. You know in sport, in everything Americans are involved in, they want to win. That is the culture. It’s cultural. Of course, it’s going to be a pressure. But a welcome one. That means that we are going to feel the adrenalin that we need to feel.”

The USA winning the World Cup will be a huge shock because they are not good enough and cannot challenge the creme de la creme of world football yet Mauricio Pochettino feels they can do it.

“I think we are creating a very good atmosphere. They know that it’s going to be massive pressure,” Pochettino said.

“Of course now with our president that likes to put [on] pressure, that is going to be good. Yes, we are ready to deliver,” the Argentine concluded.

Pressure will definitely be on them especially knowing that Donald Trump is expecting them to win. The USA president will demand the trophy but he has to lower his expectations because there are more than 15 better teams than the Americans currently, per FIFA rankings.
