Spain’s loss is Senegal’s gain. Assane Diao was in a huge dilemma when choosing between Spain and Senegal. The young Como forward became a huge topic when national teams were about to announce their squads for the upcoming international break

Spain’s head coach, Luis de la Fuente had the Senegalese Spanish-trained attacker on mind; Malik Thiaw had the youngster on mind as well. They both were ready to give him a call up and the father of the 19 year old, Musa Diao blessed his son and declared that whatever decision he will take, he and his entire family will support him.

The boy chose his fatherland making fans across Senegal so excited. Spain’s head coach has revealed that they don’t force players to choose them and it is very difficult to play for Spain.

“Asane Diao chose to play for Senegal? We don’t force anyone to play for Spain. It’s very difficult to play for the Spanish national team,” De La Fuente said.

Which of the two countries will be difficult to represent? Considering all factors, Senegal will be very difficult than Spain. Playing for African countries have over the years been a huge problem for European based players. Issues of poor pitches and travelling problems make life extremely difficult for players playing for African nations.

Asane Diao will have the opportunity to experience things himself when Senegal travels to Togo and hosts Sudan in rounds 5 and 6 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
