A chilling murder case in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality in the Eastern Region has exposed what police describe as a calculated family betrayal, after a woman and her son were arrested for allegedly masterminding the killing of a 42-year-old man who was initially reported as the victim of a robbery attack.

The suspects, identified as 37-year-old Abigail Nyadzor and her 24-year-old son Prince Asamoah, are currently in the custody of the police at the Nsawam District Police Command over the death of Nicholas Nyadzor, the woman’s husband.

Police investigations indicate that the case began under suspicious circumstances about two weeks ago when the woman and her son reportedly rushed to the police station with a complaint.

They alleged that unknown individuals were plotting to kill Nicholas Nyadzor after he sold a parcel of land at Aduyaw-Krom, a suburb within the municipality where the family lived, and had kept the proceeds of the sale in the house.

Acting on the report, police began inquiries into the alleged threat.
Not long afterwards, Nicholas Nyadzor was attacked in the early hours of the morning, reportedly around 1:00 a.m., by a group of men who severely beat him.

Investigations quickly led to the arrest of one suspect identified as Wisdom Amelichi, believed to be part of the gang involved in the attack.
Several other suspects linked to the assault are currently on the run as police intensify efforts to apprehend them.

Police later retrieved the body of the deceased and deposited it at a morgue for preservation and further examination as investigations progressed.

However, the direction of the case changed dramatically when investigators invited the deceased’s wife and her son for further questioning.

According to police sources, the two allegedly confessed during interrogation that they were behind the attack and had hired the assailants to carry out the killing.

The police said the suspects claimed they took the drastic step because Nicholas Nyadzor allegedly failed to take care of them financially whenever he received money. The pair is also suspected of having taken the cash from the land sale following the attack.

Abigail Nyadzor and Prince Asamoah were subsequently arraigned before the Nsawam District Court last week, where the court ordered that they be remanded into custody while investigations continue.

They are expected to reappear before the court today, Friday, together with the arrested accomplice, as authorities continue the search for other suspects who remain at large.
