Thomas Partey’s move to Spain was sudden as his club, Tema Youth, parents and friends had no idea where the midfielder had gone to.

Bank roller and president of Tema Youth, Wilfred Osei Palmer has narrated how Thomas Partey deceived Tema Youth before his move to Spain.

Partey was a product of local club Odometah’s youth ranks and had a short stay with Tema Youth before travelling to Spain in 2012 to sign for Atletico Madrid.

“On the night he was travelling, he told me he had a stomach issue and missed our game against Kotoko. Later, I found out he had left to sign for Atletico Madrid,” Wilfred Osei Palmer said.

“There wasn’t any proper transfer. We wrote to Atletico, and they never bothered to respond. At the time, I was tempted to go to FIFA, but Moses Odjer pleaded with me to let it go for Partey’s sake. I held back, knowing we could still benefit from a solidarity fee if he moved to another club,” Palmer said in an interview on Hot FM.

The 31-year-old midfielder had a loan stint with Mallorca and Almeria before in October 2020 moved to England.

He has since become a great midfielder amidst so many injury problems.
