Zimbabwean two-time Olympic swimming champion Kirsty Coventry in Greece on Thursday was elected the 10th International Olympic Committee (IOC) president.

The 41-year-old contested alongside 6 different experienced gurus in sports, but the African won comprehensively (49 votes), with her closest rival, Juan Antonio Samaranch, getting 28 votes.

The victory helped her make uncountable history including;

Becoming the first woman to hold the most powerful role in sport, the first African to hold the post, and the youngest-ever IOC president.

Born in the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare, Kirsty is the current Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation.
