The second edition of the Toyota Cup will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, 26th June 2025 in South Africa.

The Porcupine Warriors have lost their glory but are still bigger among the big clubs on the African continent. The maiden edition between Kaizer Chiefs and Tanzanian giants Young Africans in Bloemfontein was sold out, where the visitors broke the Amakhosi into pieces. Kaizer Chiefs lost 4-0 and will be prepared to win it against the Porcupine Warriors of Ghana.

Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director at Kaizer Chiefs.

“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil. Asante Kotoko are part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy. Durban is not only the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa, but a perfect place to write the next chapter of our history after winning the Nedbank Cup in May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium,”

“Mobility, possibility, and connection are not just pillars of this tournament – they are core to who we are at Toyota,” says Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager of Marketing and Communications at Toyota South Africa Motors. “The Toyota Cup brings people together, creates unforgettable moments, and celebrates the rich football heritage of our continent. It perfectly embodies this year’s theme: Africa Unites.” Ghana and South Africa are two powerful countries with an incredible history, as their past leaders play key roles in the unity of Africa.

Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye (Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah), Chairman of Asante Kotoko SC.

“It is with great joy and anticipation that we come to South Africa for the 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup. Football has always been a powerful bridge between people and nations, and this event shows what is possible when sport is supported by vision and purpose. We are proud to be part of this celebration of African unity and commend Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs for setting the standard for what African football can be,”.

Official broadcasters SABC expressed their delight at the clash.

“The SABC is delighted to be partnering with Kaizer Chiefs, one of South Africa’s iconic and legendary football clubs. This broadcast partnership cements the SABC’s position as a broadcaster for the people with a keen interest in prioritising sport of national interest and supporting local sporting codes. It is also in line with the SABC’s vision “To become the leading, credible voice and face of the nation and the continent”, as our audiences will be treated to exciting coverage of this prestigious match between iconic African soccer clubs, Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs finished 9th in the just-ended South Africa’s Betway Premier League, much to the disappointment of the fans. The club will face Dutch sides Utrecht and Nijmegen in their pre-season before facing Asante Kotoko.

Asante Kotoko finished third in the Ghana Premier League but won the FA Cup, which earned them a ticket in the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup. The club’s major preparation ahead of next season will commence with this big fixture against Kaizer Chiefs.
