A major Chinese automotive manufacturer, Guangzhou Automobile Group Company Limited, headquartered in Guangzhou, has agreed to give it a thought to establish an electric vehicle in Ghana.
Foreign Affairs Minister of Ghana, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed what transpired between him and a Chinese vehicle manufacturer group in his recent visit to the Asian nation.
Okudzeto wrote on his X wall.
“Our vigorous pursuit of economic diplomacy is producing fantastic results.
On my recent visit to China, Guangzhou Automobile Group Company Limited (GAC)— a leading electric vehicle manufacturer agreed to give favourable consideration to Ghana for the establishment of an EV manufacturing plant.
China is the global leader in EV manufacturing, with 7 of the 10 leading EV brands located in China. Experts say China is 10 years ahead of the world with its groundbreaking EV technology.
Ghana is poised to forge strategic partnerships that leverage our lithium discovery and economic recovery for transformation and massive job creation.
I am grateful to the board and management of GAC for the wonderful hospitality when they hosted my delegation and me at their Panyu Headquarters, and for their great interest in our beloved Ghana.
Through our renewed focus on economic diplomacy, we shall ensure our foreign relations make a meaningful impact in the lives of the people we serve”, he included.
Ghana is ready to engage in many businesses with China, according to the Foreign Ministry, with the establishment of an electric vehicle company in Accra.
