In-form Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has earned a late call-up to the Ghana national team, replacing Inaki Williams, who was sidelined due to injury.

Williams sustained the setback during Athletic Bilbao’s La Liga clash with Mallorca, where he had scored before being forced off in the 53rd minute.

The injury ruled him out of Ghana’s crucial double-header against the Central African Republic and Comoros, prompting head coach Otto Addo to make the needed changes.

Asante Kotoko’s forward Albert Amoah and Asante Thomas were the two players identified by Otto Addo, but he subsequently settled on Coventry City’s striker.

Thomas-Asante’s inclusion comes on the back of an impressive run in the English Championship, where the 26-year-old forward has netted five goals and provided three assists in just nine appearances this season, including a standout performance where he scored twice against Sheffield Wednesday, which has helped Frank Lampard’s team occupy the number slot on the league log.

His form has not gone unnoticed, and with Ghana needing firepower up front, his call-up is both timely and deserved.

The Black Stars are currently in Casablanca, Morocco, preparing for their match against the Central African Republic scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Following that, they will return to Accra to face Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.

These fixtures are pivotal, as Ghana sits atop Group I with 19 points and needs just four more to secure qualification for their fifth World Cup appearance.

Thomas-Asante’s return to the national setup marks his first involvement since the Unity Cup in May.

With one goal in four previous appearances for Ghana, he’ll be eager to make a stronger impact this time around.

His dynamic style and goal-scoring instincts could prove vital in unlocking defences and securing the points Ghana needs to book their ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The squad, which includes superstar players like Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, and Fatawu Issahaku, is expected to hold its first training session in Morocco on Monday before travelling to the match venue.

With the team in high spirits and Thomas-Asante’s arrival injecting fresh energy, Ghana’s hopes of sealing World Cup qualification remain strong.

The nation will be watching closely as the Black Stars aim to finish the qualifiers on a high note.
