Mawuena Tamakloe, a 24-year-old woman, has been sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for stealing a Hisense 4K TV belonging to The Church of Pentecost at the Teshie Military Barracks.
Mawuena had escaped while she had been returned to the police station, but was apprehended during a chase.
It is reported that the young woman, carrying a TV box out of the barracks, was spotted by Military officers who interrogated her. Her explanation did not satisfy the officers, who handed her over to the Military police.
She confessed to stealing the TV from one of the Church’s offices and was subsequently handed over to the police.
Further interrogation revealed that the convict damaged the head pastor’s office, which she admitted to. The Presiding Judge of an Accra Circuit Court, who sentenced Mawuena, took into consideration her age, her status as a first-time offender, her plea for leniency, and the cost of the item, which was valued at GhC8,900.
