Four officers of the Western Central Regional Police Command have earned national recognition and promotions following a high-stakes arrest that linked them to one of the country’s most brutal murder cases in recent times.

The Ghana Police Service has officially promoted No. 47459 G/Sgt. Fetus Gameli Kukuia, No. 52192 G/Cpl. Christian Asare, No. 52441 G/Cpl. Nicholas Kingsley Amoah, and No. 59947 G/Const.

Adam Yakubu for what authorities described as “exceptional diligence, professionalism, and commitment to duty.” Their new ranks now stand as Inspector, Sergeant, and Lance Corporal, respectively.

According to the Police Administration, the officers’ swift action and tactical acumen led to the arrest of three armed suspects at Bawdie Barrier near Wassa Akropong, a key breakthrough in the investigation into the Asiyaw massacre that claimed five lives on April 29, 2025.

Background: The Asiyaw Murders and a Nationwide Manhunt

Just one day after the grisly murders at Asiyaw near Nsawam, the officers intercepted a Grand Bird Bus with registration number AS 4431-22 en route to Wassa Akropong.

Their search of the vehicle yielded a submachine gun (SMG) and 21 rounds of ammunition in the possession of one of the passengers, later identified as Hakeem Imoro.

Upon interrogation, Imoro disclosed that the weapon had been supplied by a man he referred to as his boss, “Forson.”

Police investigations later confirmed this individual to be Samuel Atsu Forson, also known as Alanyo, who was already in custody as a prime suspect in the Asiyaw murders.

Alongside Imoro, two others — Imoro Tahiru and Nurideen Wahab — were arrested. Police intelligence later confirmed that all three men were directly linked to the Asiyaw killings and were attempting to flee the region when they were apprehended by the officers.

Commendation

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, along with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), praised the officers for their decisive action and calm professionalism under pressure.

Speaking at a brief promotion ceremony, the IGP noted that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to acknowledging and rewarding officers who demonstrate courage and excellence.

“This promotion is not just a reward for these four men; it’s a signal to the entire service that integrity, diligence, and loyalty will never go unnoticed,” he stated.

The IGP added that the successful arrest not only bolstered the case against the Asiyaw murder suspects but also prevented further violence and potential escape from justice.

Building a Culture of Accountability and Recognition

This latest round of promotions adds to the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing efforts to reform internal morale and accountability structures.

In recent years, the Service has faced criticism for delayed recognition of exemplary officers.

However, under Yohuno’s leadership, there has been a deliberate shift toward real-time rewards for personnel who demonstrate extraordinary commitment.
