Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have disclosed to the Ghana Football Association that each will demand 20% of any TV deal that will be brokered for the Ghana Premier League, with the remaining 60% to be shared among the other 16 clubs.

They made this demand after Pooley’s death as the two clubs are seeking sanity and fairness in the Ghana Premier League.

Former Phobia skipper, Amankwah Mireku has supported the idea by saying that the two clubs attract massive supporters, so they must be given 40% of any deal.

“There are two big rivalry teams that make the league very interesting. For Ghana, that is Kotoko and Hearts so for them to demand a bigger share of the TV deal, yes, they deserve it.

“Why are Kotoko and Hearts matches shown live on TV more than other teams? It’s because of their pedigree and what they bring to the league. So, for me, their demand is fair, and it should be granted.

“If Kotoko and Hearts get more from TV rights, that money should be reflected in player incentives and development, but the players also need to step up and perform to justify these demands. If the league improves, more sponsors will come in, and that benefits everyone,” the former right-back told Citi Sports.

Records show that the smaller clubs get enough money when Kotoko or Hearts of Oak visit them. The two humongous clubs’ games are shown more on television than the other clubs.
