At least 40 shops have been destroyed at the Kwadaso Main Market in the Ashanti Region after a fire outbreak.

The fire incident, which reportedly occurred around midnight, ravaged through the wooden and metallic shops, lasting for hours.

The fire was extinguished in the early hours of Thursday, August 1, by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service.

Photos sighted on asaaseradio.com showed the extent of damage and the extent of the fire, which has caused huge losses to affected victims.

Items including foodstuffs, cooking oil, confectionaries, wax prints and electrical appliances, among others were destroyed.

Recounting their losses, some of the affected victims said “I sell electrical appliances here. I received a distress call at dawn and rushed over, only to find that all my wares had been destroyed. It’s going to be tough if I don’t get urgent assistance.”

“It is a terrible loss,” said Akosua Agyekumwaa, the acting queen of the market.

“Now we are seeking the intervention of the president and our Member of Parliament to come to our aid. Our livelihoods have been heavily affected,” she added.
