The Ghana Immigration Service has arrested 93 Nigerian nationals, including 91 men and two women, at Devtraco Estate for involvement in internet fraud and breaching immigration laws.

The team searched six houses in the area during the operation and found 73 individuals who are thought to be victims of human trafficking. They were taken captive and experienced significant torture and mistreatment by the suspects.

The victims have been saved and returned to Nigeria. Items recovered, which are thought to have been used to support the suspected criminal activities, included counterfeit US dollar bills, fake gold bars, 17 television sets, 82 laptop computers, 57 mobile phones, and various household appliances.

Initial investigations by the Immigration Service found that some foreigners entered the country through unauthorised pathways, while others had exceeded the 90-day visa-free allowance granted to citizens of countries in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Comptroller General of the Immigration Service issued a statement advising foreign nationals living in Ghana to follow the laws of the country.

The service informs foreigners who enter the country illegally or stay beyond their visa expiration that these actions are considered crimes, which may result in fines or imprisonment for a period ranging from three months to two years. Investigations are currently being conducted to determine the complete scope of the criminal network.
