The Super Clash will forever remain the biggest game in Ghanaian football as it has no competitor. The Ghanaian football calendar used to have so many jaw-dropping fixtures. Almost all those fixtures are dead and gone, but the evergreen Kotoko and Accra Hearts Of Oak’s Super Clash still exist and enjoy its kingship.
Ghana Premier League and all football-related activities were suspended due to the 2024 General Elections. After a week laden with politics, football is incredibly back, and Baba Yara Sports Stadium is the place to be this Sunday.
Eight of the nine week 13 games will be played on Saturday with the big one scheduled at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium at 3 pm on Sunday.
In the build-up to the game on AP Sports, Dan Quaye, former Accra Hearts of Oak defender was interviewed by the Sports President. The 43-year-old ex-defender knows all that it takes to win in the Super Clash as he played and won many games in this amazing fixture.
“It’s a different ball game, it doesn’t matter your current form,” Dan Quaye said when quizzed about his opinion on the blockbuster game. The current form of the two teams is the opposite. Asante Kotoko in their last five Ghana Premier League games has won just one and lost four. It was four consecutive defeats before the impressive 2-0 win for the Porcupine Warriors against Aduana Stars in Dormaa-Ahenkro. Phobia on the other hand in their last five Premier League games has been very good after winning three, drawing one and losing one. Dan Quaye made it clear that the fixture doesn’t know its current form.
“It’s all about determination”, the 2005 Confederation Cup winner said. The ex-Black Stars defender revealed that the very determined team will carry the day.
When pushed to make a prediction, the former centre-back and right-back predicted a win for Phobia. “Hearts of Oak stand the chance of winning because this fixture has always favoured the away side. The home team is always under pressure so playing away is better in this fixture”.
“Kumasi was our home as we used to play extremely well there. We were under no pressure at the Baba Yara because our fans were not there”, Dan Quaye added. Hearts of Oak’s best moment in Kumasi was when they won the maiden CAF Confederation Cup via penalty shootout where Dan Quaye was even part of the Hearts of Oak players that took part in the shootout.
Asante Kotoko defeated Accra Hearts of Oak home and away last season. The Porcupine Warriors also triumphed in the Democracy Cup making it three successive defeats for Phobia against their rivals. A fourth straight defeat against Fabulous will be disastrous for the Phobia fraternity.
Hearts of Oak sits sixth on the league table while Kotoko sits seventh ahead of Sunday’s titan clash.
