The cameras captured Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana when coming off to the bench asking his manager, Russel Martin, Why me? Why me?
Kamaldeen Sulemana has not started any competitive game for club and country since 10th June when Ghana won 4-3 against Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
It was good news on Sunday evening for the 22-year-old Ghanaian talented forward when Southampton manager Russel Martin handed him a rare start.
At the Saint Mary’s Stadium, struggling Southampton was down by 3-0 in just 14 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur. A change in approach, personnel, and system was necessary, so Russel Martin sacrificed Kamaldeen Sulemana.
The Ghanaian was replaced by 22-year-old English defender Nathan Wood to tighten the defence.
Kamaldeen Sulemana expressed his disappointment, shouting at his manager, “Why me? Why me?”
The manager explained why he subbed Sulemana so earlier when speaking to the BBC after the game.
“We were 3-0 down in 14 minutes. We had to change the shape. So I feel for Kamaldeen, but we knew he was going to have to come off early at some point; he hasn’t played a lot, so 55-60 was going to be his max. It made sense.”
The manager disclosed that his substitution made sense because Sulemana had not played many minutes for a long time.
Southampton remains deeply rooted at the bottom of the table after a shambolic start to the campaign.
Russel Martin was sacked by the club on Sunday night soon after Tottenham Hotspur smashed them 5-0.
