A policeman has reportedly shot his colleague dead at Abease along the Prang-Kintampo road in the Bono East region.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 11:30 am on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Information gathered by Adom News suggests that, a funeral procession was underway with the mourners headed to the cemetery.

However, they encountered a police barrier, which led to a confrontation.

The situation escalated when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a policewoman, prompting a call for backup.

The reinforcement team is said to have clashed with the mourners upon arrival, during which a policeman fired warning shots.

In an attempt by the mourners to disarmed him, the gun accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen.

The officer responsible fled the scene after realizing the harm caused.

The injured officer was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Techiman Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
