“Based on results, one can easily conclude that Otto Addo shouldn’t be there, but before his appointment, there was an announcement that there would be tough times”, Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.

Otto Addo has not proven in any way that he should be allowed to continue as the head coach of Ghana. No one can argue if the GFA decides to sack the former Black Stars midfielder as the coach of the senior national team.

Ghana won only two games in all competitions in the entire 2024 under two different coaches: Chris Houghton, who was sacked soon after the embarrassing AFCON 2023 campaign, and Otto Addo, who is still under huge pressure. Otto Addo won the two games for Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but had an embarrassing campaign in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Otto Addo knew that the job was a tough one after the 2023 AFCON. Ghana Football Association and Ghanaians also knew the job was a difficult one, and Henry Asante Twum believes it is the main reason why Otto Addo has not been sacked.

Ghana will target a place in the USA-CANADA-MEXICO for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as it resumes in March 2025.
