Kamaldeen Sulemana became the record signing for Southampton in January 2023 after French side Rennes agreed to a 20m euro deal with the English side. The deal made him also the most expensive player to be sold out of the Danish Super League surpassing Norwegian striker Alexander Sorloth’s £9 million deal from Midtjylland in 2018 to Crystal Palace.
The 22-year-old promising forward has since suffered many injuries which have prevented him from showing to the Southampton fans the reason why the club agreed to make him the record signing.
The Ghanaian winger has finally revealed the weight on his shoulders has been the most expensive signing of the struggling EPL club.
“Ever since I got here, there’s always been big pressure on me. Sometimes I feel like I play quite well, but if the team doesn’t win, I don’t score, and I don’t assist; I haven’t fulfilled my task as a striker or as a winger,” Kamaldeen said
“It’s still not enough because I’m regarded as the transfer record, and I should always be the one doing everything to get the club where it needs to be,” he added.
Sulemana certainly will feel the pressure because Southampton have been struggling in the top flight since he joined the club. Sulemana’s inconsistency is a huge blow for the club and the player because a lot was expected from him.
The Ghanaian has played a combined 393 minutes in 13 league games for the Saints scoring only one goal.
The Saints are deeply rooted in the table after winning only 3 games in 25 games winning an unbelievable 9 points.
