Antonio Rudiger has come under immense criticism for his aggressive style of play and lack of respect towards opponents and officials.

The centre-back, who always tries to bully opponents, was in his full element on Saturday night when he launched an object in the referee’s direction from the substitute’s bench in the closing stages of extra time against Barcelona in the finals of the Spanish Copa Del Rey in Sevilla.

In Germany, they don’t want Antonio Rüdiger to represent the national team, according to the Bild newspaper.

In a survey made by the newspaper, a staggering 78% of Germans believe the Real Madrid player should not play for the four-time World Cup champions due to his unacceptable behaviour.

“Rüdiger’s behaviour is disgraceful. The national team coach should consider whether a man like that can continue to represent our country.” Former FIFA referee and BILD expert Thorsten Kinhöfer (56) said about the 32-year-old Antonio Rüdiger.

In the poll, in which up to 18,000 readers voted, only 20% supported the German player and 2% remained undecided about the decision Julian Nagelsman will have to make in the next squad.

The decision to not call Rudiger for the national team again will all depend on German head coach Julian Nagelsman.

Rudiger is expected to be given a heavy fine and a long suspension by the Spanish FA.

Rudi Voller urges Rudiger to show respect!

The German national team’s sporting director Rudi Völler reacted to Antonio Rüdiger’s outburst against Barcelona:

“Toni is a top-class player—but as an international player, he also has to show class in his behavior. He rightly demands respect for himself, and he must also show that respect to others without exception.

“Toni is an outstanding footballer and a very emotional guy, a fighter on the pitch. He should stay that way. But in this case, he and some of his teammates allowed themselves to be too ‘infected’ by the extremely heated atmosphere that had inexplicably prevailed around the club before the game.

“That’s unacceptable – especially not for a German international. Toni has to change in that regard, and he knows it himself. Toni contacted Julian [Nagelsmann] and me yesterday, and we talked at length about the situation. With him directly, but also internally with Bernd Neuendorf [DFB President] and Andreas Rettig [DFB Sporting director].
