Mohammed Polo, the dribbling magician, as he is affectionately known, is regarded by the veteran Ghanaian football connoisseurs as the only player who could rival Argentine magician, Lionel Messi, as the best dribbler of all time.
Many have been saying Polo was a better dribbler than Messi, although there is little data to back that argument.
Mohammed Polo was a superstar during his playing days for Accra Hearts of Oak in the 1970s and 80s.
Also, he was part of the Black Stars team that won the 1978 AFCON, in which he played a very crucial role in the triumph.
Polo has urged Ghanaians to celebrate him and other sporting heroes of the nation whilst they are still alive.
In an interview on Ghanasoccernet, the veteran football brain said. “They are waiting for me to die before they honour me, and I’m saying, ‘No, if I die, no, I don’t need anything again”.
“I want to be honoured now because if I die, I don’t even need it,” Polo said.
Polo’s appeal is very passionate after calling for all Ghanaian sporting heroes to be honoured whilst they are still with us but rather not wait and praise them when they are no more.
The former left winger had stints in Gabon and UAE and later became a coach for Phobia, Great Olympics and Stade Malien.
