Sixteen individuals have been detained in Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region of Ghana. They were apprehended for participating in unlawful drug activities, which is a huge crime against the law of Ghana.
The arrest took place during a specialised operation. The group consisted of members from the Ghana Police Service and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
They stated that the operation was intended to address the increasing problem of drug abuse and trafficking in the region. The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Be-Awuribe, stated, “Everyone who has been arrested will undergo testing and will be taken to court”.
He continued, “The law will address their actions appropriately to caution others”. The minister advised parents and guardians to monitor their children carefully. Salisu Be-Awuribe stated that they should provide guidance to help prevent involvement in risky activities such as drug use.
