At the Mastella Stadium on 21st May 2023, in Week 35 of La Liga, Real Madrid was beaten1-0 by Valencia via then 21-year-old Diego Lopez’s first-half strike.

The Mestalla Stadium witnessed nasty scenes as three Valencia fans were found chanting and abusing Vinicius Junior.

They were found guilty of abusing the Brazillian forward and subsequently were told to face the law.

On Monday, the three Valencia fans were handed sentences of eight months in prison and two-year stadium bans over abusing Vinicius racially.

“The first criminal conviction in Spanish history isn’t for me, but it’s for all black people. May other racists feel scared, and ashamed and hide in the shadows. Otherwise, I will be here to hold them accountable,” reacted Vinicius Junior.

The 24-year-old has suffered abuse at Atletico Madrid and Valencia which has led to many people criticizing the Spanish authorities for watching people torment blacks in the country.

A Spanish court has reacted by punishing severely the three Valencia fans which will serve as a deterrent to others.

Spanish international Nico Williams was also abused racially at Atletico Madrid when Bilbao travelled to the Wanda Metropolitano.
