Ghana’s military preparedness against emerging security threats received a significant boost on Friday, July 11, 2025, as the Jungle Warfare School at Akim Achiase in the Eastern Region successfully held a graduation ceremony for two intensive military training courses—the Young Officers Course (YOC) and the Basic Non-Commissioned Training Course (BNTC) 1-25.

After six months of grueling tactical, leadership, and jungle warfare instruction, 118 military personnel—60 commissioned officers under the YOC and 58 non-commissioned officers under the BNTC—were formally passed out in a ceremony that showcased the Ghana Armed Forces’ renewed focus on internal security operations and counterinsurgency readiness.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the Army Training Command (CATRC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, who underscored the strategic relevance of the training in light of growing regional security challenges. He emphasized that the program was meticulously designed to sharpen participants’ skills in jungle tactics, leadership under pressure, and counterinsurgency operations within hostile terrain.

“This training lays a vital foundation, but your development must not stop here,” Brigadier General Amanor advised the graduates.

“I urge you all to continue learning, build on what you’ve gained here, and apply the lessons and reference materials in your operational environments.”

Brigadier General Amanor also paid glowing tribute to the instructors and supporting staff at the Jungle Warfare School for their dedication and professionalism in conducting the course.

“Your tireless efforts, patience, and commitment have made a lasting impact on the lives and careers of these young officers and soldiers,” he stated.

The Commanding Officer of the Jungle Warfare School, Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Cudjoe, also addressed the gathering and used the opportunity to recognize outstanding performers.

Lieutenant Bright Effah was named the best student in the Young Officers Course, while Private Dzizah Ebenezer emerged top of the Basic Non-Commissioned Training Course.

Other awardees who placed second and third in their respective categories were also acknowledged for their efforts. Lt Col Cudjoe encouraged all award winners to maintain the high standards they had set and become role models in their respective units.

The Jungle Warfare School at Achiase has long been a cornerstone of the Ghana Armed Forces’ strategy to develop specialized combat capabilities.

Established with the aim of producing agile, tactically sound, and mentally resilient troops, the institution plays a crucial role in equipping soldiers with the knowledge and endurance necessary to operate in the complex terrain, particularly in forest and rural zones prone to illicit activity or insurgent threats.
