Antoine Semenyo reported to the referee that a fan had racially abused him when Bournemouth visited Liverpool on Friday night for the opening game of the 2025-26 English Premier League season.
Coaches and skippers for both sides were invited by referee Anthony Taylor, who informed them of Semenyo’s report as the game was stopped for a few minutes.
The 47-year-old wheelchair-bound abuser, who is from Liverpool, was evicted from the stadium where the game continued.

Liverpool Metropolitan Police report
“We can confirm that a man has been conditionally bailed after he was arrested following reports that racist abuse was directed towards Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo.
“A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday, 16 August, on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. He has now been bailed with conditions, which include not attending any regulated football match in the UK and not going within one mile of a designated football stadium.”
What are the competitions he cannot watch
According to the Home Office, regulated football matches in England and Wales include those involving English and Welsh clubs in the top six levels of men’s English football (Premier League to National League North and South), the Cymru Premier, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, matches involving the national teams, and those such as the Champions League Final and some associated age group matches (under 18 and above), the Telegraph Sport revealed.
Liverpool won 4-2 against Bournemouth, where the racially abused Semenyo shook off the trauma and scored twice.
The fight against racism in football is probably the most difficult one in European football, as black players have been abused constantly by white supporters.
The English FA and stakeholders in British football have promised to deal drastically with racism.
