A 13-year-old girl at Akuse in the Eastern Region has allegedly been defiled by her uncle and two other accomplices.

The convicts, 46-year-old labourer Benjamin Awuku, an uncle of the victim, and a 24-year-old Bismark Zinu, alias Bodor, have been arrested and charged for defilement of a minor.

According to reports, the case came to light after a child protection officer invited the victim and her mother for questioning on the 8th of August, upon receiving reports of the girl’s involvement with older men.

It is alleged that the girl later revealed during questioning that Awuku had been abusing her for two years and named Zinu, along with another suspect, Etornam, who is still at large.

The victim, Charity Amenyo, is said to be a class six pupil of Amedeka M/A Basic school, who lived with the accused person and her mother in Amedeka, a suburb of Akuse.

On August 10, 2025, police arrested the accused at their hideout.
Awuku admitted to having anal and vaginal sex with the victim, while Zinu confessed to anal sex and an unsuccessful attempt at vaginal penetration, according to the report.

It is reported that a formal complaint was lodged, and the victim was sent to the hospital for a medical examination. The medical report confirmed the abuse.

The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court handed 15-year sentences each to the men, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend Etornam.
