Seven goals were scored at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup between Asante Kotoko of Ghana and Kwara United from Nigeria.

The tie had promised to produce a classic encounter, just like anything football between Ghana and Nigeria, and it did not fail as seven good goals were scored between the two teams.

Abdul Karim-Zito’s Porcupine Warriors opened the scoring in the 18th minute via Emmanuel Antwi.

The Nigerians looked determined to get back on level terms, and thankfully, Johnmark Atule’s 34th-minute strike made it 1-1.

The Porcupine Warriors’ pressure paid off when Abert Amoah put the host ahead in the 45th minute.

Asante Kotoko thought they were ending the first half with a 2-1 lead, but Kwara United, in the second minute of additional time, scored through the dangerous Atule to make it 2-2.

The second half got off to an intense start with both sides showing the determination to score to go ahead.

Joseph Ablor with only two minutes played into the second half scored Asante Kotoko’s third to stun the visitors.

Albert Amoah’s 73rd-minute penalty made it 4-2 for the Porpucine Warriors, with fans seriously seeking the 5th goal to end the tie.

Kwara had different plans and pulled one back through Abdulraheem Shola in the 85th minute.

The 4-3 score line excited the Nigerians, but Asante Kotoko will rue their inability to end the game with a two-goal difference.

The second leg is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 28th September 202,5 in Ilorin at the Kwara Sports Stadium in Nigeria.
