Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey has been dealt another cruel setback after sustaining a fresh knee injury just 22 minutes into his first Serie A start for Fiorentina during their 2–1 defeat to Como at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The 24-year-old, who joined Fiorentina from Brighton & Hove Albion in a late summer transfer, landed awkwardly after a jump and hyper-extended his left knee. Despite attempting to continue, Lamptey was visibly in pain and had to be substituted.
This marks his second appearance for the club, having played briefly off the bench against Napoli last week. The timing is especially frustrating, as Lamptey had only just returned from a previous knee injury sustained in May.
Fiorentina are yet to provide news on the actual injury after they have confirmed that medical tests are scheduled for Monday to assess the severity of the injury. Fans and teammates are hoping it’s not a long-term blow, especially as Lamptey was expected to play a key role in Stefano Pioli’s new tactical setup.
