Ghana’s boxing fraternity is reeling from the tragic loss of Ernest Akushey, popularly known as Bahubali, who passed away early Tuesday morning, just days after suffering a heavy defeat to Jacob Dickson at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The 32-year-old Chorkor-born fighter was a beloved figure in Ghana’s local boxing scene, admired for his explosive style and fierce competitiveness. His final bout, held on September 13, ended in a technical knockout, and reports suggest he began experiencing complications shortly after, with suspected internal bleeding cited as a possible cause.

Akushey had fought in both the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions, and was known for his crowd-pleasing performances and warrior spirit—earning him the nickname Bahubali, inspired by the legendary film character.

His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans, fellow boxers, and community members paying tribute.
